The Delta Islanders Jr. B1 bounced back from an opening away game loss with a strong third-period comeback, defeating the Maple Ridge Burrards 12–10 in their home opener.
Friday Night, Junior lacrosse returned to Delta’s Leisure Centre May 1st, where the Delta Islanders Jr. B1 delivered a hard-fought 12–10 comeback win over the Maple Ridge Burrards.
Coming off a 16–6 loss the previous night, the Islanders faced an early test in their home opener. Lacrosse remains a long-standing fixture in Delta’s sports community, supported by a strong junior development structure led by key local organizers.
The game featured heavy pressure on both goaltenders, with Joseph Foreman starting for Delta and Blake Hastings between the pipes for Maple Ridge.
FAST START FROM BURRARDS
The Burrards wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just 27 seconds into the game and quickly building a 2–0 lead. Early momentum and aggressive shooting put the Islanders on their heels as Maple Ridge controlled the pace in the opening minutes.
The early deficit quieted the home crowd—briefly.
ISLANDERS RESPOND
Logan Hinton broke through for Delta, igniting the team’s offense and shifting momentum. What followed was a back-and-forth opening period, with both teams trading chances and testing each other’s defensive structure.
By the end of the first period, the Islanders held a 7–4 lead despite a high number of penalties on both sides.
SECOND PERIOD SWINGS
The second period saw the Burrards regain control. After narrowing the gap, Maple Ridge pushed ahead with four unanswered goals, taking a 10–8 lead into the dressing room.
The physical tone intensified, with aggressive play defining much of the middle frame. A major Donnybrook broke out and the penalty box was filled on both sides.
THIRD PERIOD COMEBACK
The Islanders tightened their game in the third period, showing improved discipline and execution. Levi Crooks opened the scoring for Delta, followed by a tying goal from Logan Lawrence.
Momentum fully shifted when Ryan Roberts netted the go-ahead marker, and Logan Hinton sealed the win with the final goal, securing a 12–10 victory.
WHAT’S NEXT
The win serves as an early confidence boost as the Islanders prepare for upcoming home games, including matchups against the Saints and the Nanaimo Timbermen.

INSIGHT / WHY IT MATTERS
This is not just about a single win—it reflects a broader shift.
Early resilience often defines a team’s season.
Responding under pressure builds identity.
And in community sports, momentum carries beyond the scoreboard.
