More than 200 members of the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society gathered Monday morning at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn for a highly anticipated Extraordinary General Meeting that resulted in the removal of the Society's existing Board of Directors.
According to information provided to Delta City News by meeting attendees, 190 ballots were cast following member presentations and discussion. The final vote saw 157 members support the motion and 33 oppose it, representing approximately 82.6% support among voting members.
Members had previously been advised that a 65% majority would be required for the motion to succeed.
Given the significance of the vote, a Certified Parliamentarian was retained to chair the meeting and ensure proceedings followed established parliamentary rules and accepted governance practices. Members were reportedly advised that the meeting would be conducted in accordance with Robert's Rules of Order, a widely recognized framework for managing formal meetings and member voting.
The meeting follows months of discussion and concern among volunteers regarding the governance and future direction of the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society and its operations, including the well-known Ladner Thrift Store.
Attendees report that members were invited to speak before voting took place, providing an opportunity for supporters and opponents of the motion to present their views.
Following the successful vote, members appointed an interim board of Three expected to serve for approximately three months while the Society prepares for its next phase of governance.
An Annual General Meeting is expected to be scheduled during that period, at which time members will have an opportunity to determine the organization's longer-term leadership structure and future direction.
The Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society has played an important role in the community for decades through volunteer service, fundraising initiatives, and support for health care programs benefiting Delta residents.
Delta City News understands that additional details regarding the interim board and future governance process may be released in the coming days.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
