For decades, local newspapers played a central role in communities across Canada. They reported on city council decisions, covered local businesses, highlighted community events, and told the stories of the people who lived and worked there. They were a daily record of the life of a city.
In recent years, however, many of these publications have disappeared. Rising costs, declining advertising revenue, and the shift to digital media have forced many community newspapers to close or dramatically reduce their coverage. As a result, many communities today receive little consistent local reporting.
Delta is no exception.
Despite being one of the most economically important municipalities in Metro Vancouver—with a major port, growing industrial districts, vibrant small business communities, and active civic life—much of the daily local story often goes uncovered.
Delta City News was created to help fill that gap.

A Modern Approach to Local Journalism
Delta City News is designed as a digital-first community newspaper built around a modern publishing model that combines:
• Community contributors and citizen journalists
• AI-assisted research and publishing tools
• Coverage of local business and economic development
• Community event reporting and civic information
This approach allows a small local publication to produce consistent, useful reporting while keeping operating costs manageable.
Artificial intelligence does not replace journalism. Instead, it assists writers with research, formatting, and publishing so that more community stories can be documented and shared.
The goal is simple: make it easier for local voices to participate in reporting their own community.
A Newspaper Built for the Entire Community
Delta City News covers the full spectrum of life across the municipality, including:
• Local business and economic development
• Community events and volunteer organizations
• City council decisions and civic issues
• recreation, sports, and youth programs
• local history and cultural stories
The goal is not to promote a single viewpoint or agenda, but to provide balanced information and community storytelling that reflects the diverse voices of Delta.
Serving All Four Communities of Delta
One of the unique aspects of Delta is that it contains four distinct communities, each with its own identity and priorities:
• North Delta – a large residential community connected closely to Surrey and the Fraser Valley
• Ladner – a historic riverfront town with strong agricultural and small-business roots
• Tsawwassen – a coastal community with ferry connections, retail centers, and growing residential development and the Tsawwassen First Nations
• Tilbury – one of Metro Vancouver’s fastest-growing industrial and logistics districts
Delta City News is designed to ensure that each of these areas receives meaningful coverage.
Connecting Community and Business
Local newspapers have always played another important role: supporting local business visibility.
Small businesses, professional services, and local entrepreneurs depend on community awareness. Delta City News aims to provide a platform where local businesses can be highlighted through profiles, event coverage, and economic reporting.
Strong local media helps create strong local economies.
An Open Invitation to Community Contributors
Delta City News is also built around the idea of citizen journalism.
Community members who care about Delta are invited to contribute stories, photographs, event coverage, and local insights. Contributors receive training on how to use modern publishing tools and AI-assisted writing systems to produce articles that meet professional standards.
This collaborative model allows the publication to grow organically while ensuring that coverage reflects the people who live here.
Looking Forward
Delta continues to evolve. Population growth, port expansion, housing development, and changing transportation patterns will shape the future of the community over the next decade.
Delta City News intends to document those changes, celebrate the successes of the community, and provide a reliable place where residents and business owners can stay informed.
Local journalism works best when it is close to the community it serves.
Delta City News is built on that belief.
